About Jones & Hedges

Josh has been building homes in the Charlotte area for 20 years, where he co-founded Jones & Hedges Custom Builders in 2007.

Josh was raised in Charlotte, where he graduated from Providence Day School in 1996. He graduated from N.C. State University in 2001 with a degree in Human Resource Management and a minor in Spanish.

Immediately following graduation, Josh worked for a national home builder in the Charlotte area, where he remained for the next seven years. He gained experience working in purchasing, estimating, and construction project management. His experience working for a national builder taught Josh the importance of building relationships through customer service, accurate scheduling, and precise budgeting.

Josh is a licensed General Contractor in North Carolina, and a member of the National Association of Remodelers and the Charlotte Home Builders Association.

Outside of the office, Josh enjoys golf, camping, off-roading in his 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser, and watching his children compete in their favorite sports.  He and his wife, Barb, are the proud parents of Libby, Will, and Leighton. Although they lost Libby at the age of 3, after a difficult battle with Leukemia in 2014, Josh works hard to keep her legacy alive by riding in the 24 Hours of Booty Race each year and has led his team to raise over $1m in 8 years and continues to “Stay in the Fight” against Pediatric Cancer.

Kyle grew up in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University in 2002 with a degree in Industrial Design. His talent for drawing and drafting and his interest in construction, pulled Kyle towards pursuing a career in home building. He worked in Ohio and South Carolina before moving to Charlotte in 2005 to work for a national home builder.

Working for other builders, Kyle learned the complexities of the industry, including estimation and budgeting, project supervision, and subcontractor management.  Although working for production-style builders afforded him great experience, he was unable to utilize his artistic talents. Now working on expertly-crafted homes, Kyle is able to employ his creative thinking, eye for design, and artistic abilities into each project.

Outside of work, Kyle enjoys spending time at Lake Tillery with his family, and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes. As a member of Carmel Country Club, he and his family enjoy golf, tennis, and spending time together at the pool. He and his wife Abby have two boys – Hunter and Reid, who attend AG Middle School.

Rick grew up in Western New York and graduated from Oswego State University of New York in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education with a focus on science. After college, Rick moved to Charlotte where he was a fifth grade teacher from 2004-2006.

In 2006, Rick left teaching to follow another one of his passions, carpentry. After working for a high-end trim company for two years, Rick started his own company.  Josh and Kyle were impressed with Rick’s craftsmanship, attention to detail, customer service, and professionalism, and hired him in 2010 as a project manager.

Rick completed his North Carolina General Contractors courses in 2007.

Everyone who meets Rick knows he loves what he does and our clients rave about working with him. He enjoys seeing a project from start to finish, walking customers through the entire process, and being part of the excitement when a project is complete. Rick enjoys helping to put all the pieces together – working with subcontractors and homeowners from the planning stage on, and providing customers with a great experience.

Rick and his wife, Chelsey, have two young daughters, Evie and Olivia. Outside of work, Rick enjoys hiking, camping, boating, and bass and trout fishing. He also runs, bikes and works out as part of F3 Nation.

Born and raised in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte, Sam graduated from Olympic High School in 2015 and then attended Central Piedmont Community College. He grew up playing baseball where he traveled all around the east coast to play tournaments. He was also a volunteer fireman for 4 years, where he loved serving his community and working alongside his father who has been a firefighter the majority of his life.

He comes to us with a passion for learning the custom home building industry, working with great clients and being a part of Charlotte’s growth.

Sam enjoys everything outside. Whether it's hunting, fishing, hiking, being out on the water or spending time with his dog. He also enjoys watching any and all professional sports that Charlotte has to offer.

Eric grew up in Charlotte and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School. He graduated from NC State University in 2001 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business.

Eric began his construction career in 2004, working as a Superintendent and a Quality Assurance Inspector for a national homebuilder, where he learned the importance of providing customers with an exceptional building experience. Eric continued his construction career working as a Project Manager for a regional foundation company, and then as a Property Insurance Adjuster. Eric’s variety of industry experience and broad construction knowledge is a huge asset to our company. He enjoys being able to combine his educational background, his work experience, and his personal skills to help homeowners understand and enjoy the process of building their home.

Eric is a licensed General Contractor, Home Inspector, and Insurance Adjuster.

Outside of work, Eric and his wife, Andrea, have two children - Henry and Audrey. In his spare time, he enjoys working on projects at his own home and supporting his children’s activities and sports. Eric is an Eagle Scout and spends time volunteering with Boy Scouts of America, leading his children’s troops. He also enjoys camping, hiking, and outdoor skills.

Shelby grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and came to Charlotte to attend Queens University, where she graduated with a degree in Corporate Communications and a minor in Marketing in 2000. While in college, Shelby was part of the women’s soccer team and was named 1st Team All Southeast.

Shelby has a variety of experience across the construction industry having previously worked for Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, Zande Custom Homes, Bird Decorative Hardware and Wurth Wood Group. She also worked in marketing for Roush Racing.

Shelby enjoys the relationships she builds with homeowners and the trust they put in her to bring their vision to life. She relies on her diverse experience and industry relationships to deliver skillful direction and professionalism.

Shelby and her husband Justin have two children, Evan and Hadley, who keep them busy with lacrosse most of the year. She loves being with friends and family, spending time outdoors, playing tennis, and walking her Irish Doodle Murphy.
